| Copper Beech on the death of a colleague

 Somewhere was where he went.
Now when the campus is thick with summer, the copper beech will show the small spaces
among its leaves as clearly empty places.
And soon in winter ever a larger
 airy emptiness
will whirl through the tines of its branches.
Then we'll turn our eyes away - so hard it is to witness
the tree weeping twigs as we lament. |
