Gravity in Mexico

for Ramon

Roaming like moons

inside a ring of hills

we smiled all day

wore the wind as earrings

let it roll diamonds

up and down our fingers.

All day the wind was wheels

churning our bodies.

Breeze bands

careened around us.

One eely loop of wind

bumped an iguana

caromed up

landed high in a yucca and spun

into twins!

But the hills were grave.

Light lay there

like smooth fruit

weighing

yellow in the afternoon

then red and heavy in the evening.
